The Second Official Trailer!

COMING THIS WINTER!

After the success of trailer one, the Bring Back Kirk campaign has been hard at work for the past few months working on the second official campaign trailer. The previous producers, Producer/Editor Jay B and 3D artist Jason Turner, have expanded the team to include another 3D artist Wil Jaspers, allowing the team to aim for higher heights and produce totally original computer generated sequences.

The second trailer will have more narrative-based footage, and will feature scenes NEVER seen before in any of the Star Trek series and movies, including characters from all the Star Trek series.

PICS:

Below is a low-quality sampling of the kind of sequences you can expect to see in the next trailer without giving anything away:

FAQ:

Several weeks ago we invited you to submit questions to the technical team working on the much anticipated second Bring Back Kirk trailer. Thank you for all your questions. As ever the best were selected and we are now pleased to bring you that interview.

1. Who are you, and what is your role in the BBK Trailer?

Jason: I'm Jason Turner from England, and I'm one of our CGI artists for the BBK Trailer. I did all the CGI work for the first trailer, and fortunately I'm not on my own for the second.

Jay:  I'm Jay B. from the United States. I am the current webmaster of BringBackKirk.com.  I was the editor of the first trailer, and I will be editing the second trailer.

Wil: I'm Wil Jaspers from the Netherlands, one of the CGI artists, not involved with the first trailer.

2. What is your vision for the BBK trailer? What themes does it explore? (Darth David)

Jason: My individual vision for the trailer is to show that there are still stories to be told with Captain Kirk. I want people to be excited and ignite their enthusiasm to see the character again. The major theme for at least the first third of the trailer is the timeless friendship of Kirk and Spock; which to me is the very heart and soul of the original series.

Jay: I believe that one of the purposes of this trailer is to help illustrate the possibilities of just how a task like bringing back Kirk can be done.  The original trailer helped inspire passion in Kirk fans, and we're hoping this new trailer will do the same
Wil: Just to bring Kirk back!

3. Is there a story to the BBK trailer? (Frank Madison)

Jason:  There are several stories to this trailer, which all interconnect to a very large overall story. Our Captain's untimely and unnecessary death in Generations is certainly something we fix, setting up Kirk's ability to get involved with the main narrative of the trailer. It's all very exciting stuff, which ties in with a major story arc currently on Star Trek at the moment.

Jay: You'll get a definite sense of a main story in this trailer.  As well as other story possibilities.  The possibilities are endless, and we're only touching on a few.

Wil: Yes there is a story, ironically Paramount handed it to us.

4. How different is it from the first trailer and will we see anything we haven't seen before? (Brian Rothschild)

Jason: This time we've made a very conscious effort to go for a more linear narrative, which now will be about 80% narrative; as opposed to 10% of the first trailer. There's a great story to this; it's not just a bunch of random shots put together. And you'll certainly see scenes that you've never seen before, and likely never will (except of course: the return of our hero).

Jay:  What's unique about this trailer, is that just about every shot will be brand-new.  The FX work from Jason and Wil is outstanding, and through their hard work, they've constructed never-before-seen Trek material, including character interaction!

Wil: The first trailer asked to get Kirk back, the second brings him back, think that is the difference. And to do that, we had to make things you've never seen before.

5. Will there be any characters from any of the other series showing up? (Carla Gabrielle)

Jason: Absolutely. We have characters from nearly all Star Trek era's showing up. The crossover element is certainly something we wanted to excite the fans, as a crossover is very likely the only realistic means of getting Kirk back.

Jay: Most definitely.  There's going to be some Trek cameos that will be quite surprising to many fans.

Wil: Sure, I think it wouldn't be realistic not to use characters from other series, also I'm not only a TOS fan, I do love other series.

6. How goes the progress on the competition winning scene with the Guardian of Forever and Archer's Enterprise? If completed, how did it turn out and will it be in the final trailer? (Mario)

Jason: The scene was completed a couple of months back, and worked exceptionally well. I'd say it was one of the best shots in the trailer, if we didn't keep topping ourselves with all the newer scenes. Yes, it will definitely be part of the final trailer.

Jay:  It turned out very well, thanks to Jason and Wil.  It's my favorite footage in the trailer, in fact.

Wil: As time went by it really turned out to be the right choice.

7. How many trailers will you be doing? (Wilfred Littlepage)

Jay: This trailer is the only new trailer in the works.  However, you can expect to see a little something in 2004, as well.

8. You said that it is going to be nearly all CGI work. How long does that take? (Wendy C)

Jason: The CGI work can take anywhere from a day to a month for a single sequence. The modelling of the meshes, in this case starships, planets and terrain models can take the bulk of the work. Then you have the camera, movement and lighting, which can be a case of trial and error. The short answer is, a very long time.

9. I heard that it's already been shown at a few conventions this year. What was the response like and why hasn't it been online yet? (Jamie Peacock)

Jason: The latest prototype version was shown at a UK convention, and although our representative missed the actual showing of the trailer, they were so impressed that they will be showing it again at their next convention in February. It was never put online, because the best is yet to come, and we want people to see our best work in the final version.

Jay:  The trailers that were shown at two different conventions (Sci-Fi Ball Trailer, and the Brazilian Convention Trailer) are trailers that  were prepared exclusively for those conventions.  Much of the footage shown in those trailers has been improved upon and because of this, they will not be shown online.  Although these convention trailers were big hits, they are nothing compared to the second official trailer.

10. When will the BBK trailer be released? (Jurgen Kleitshein)

Jay: Expect it this Winter!

11. Any final words?

Jason, Jay & Wil: Thanks for being so patient with us the last few months, we know it's been a long wait, but the wait is almost over and you're about to see something very spectacular. It will be the most exciting project this campaign has ever released. It gives fans exactly what they want to see, in ways they would never expect it. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.
