BringBackKirk.com Official Trailer Submission Contest!

The BBK campaign is giving you the chance to get one step closer to our goal, by pitching a sequence for the upcoming BBK trailer.

We, the fans, have long since claimed we know good Star Trek when we see it, and now's your chance to prove it, and become a small creative part of arguably our biggest campaign event since the release of the first trailer.

The prize is simple: You get to see your idea in all its visual glory. There is no other prize, because Star Trek is owned by Paramount.  They are the only ones that are allowed to make money off it.

This is the brief (please adhere to it).

BRIEF:

Pitch, in no more than 200 words, *one* scene/sequence for inclusion in the new BBK trailer.

If your idea is brilliant and requires more than a few seconds, we'll consider it. But aim for a relatively short sequence, and make it as exciting and as original as possible.

For example, we'd favour "Kirk and Spock sky-dive toward Starfleet HQ" over "Kirk and Spock play chess with Captain Janeway". But keep it sensible, and in the framework of the possible, and the Star Trek universe, more specifically Kirk.

It may be narrative driven, or just an idea for a nice action shot, interior or exterior.

We are definitely open to any suggestions involving Captain Archer and Enterprise. As Enterprise is now our main goal to get Kirk back, sequences involving Enterprise are definite possibilities.

If it involves characters in interior locations, bear in mind we can't film the actors bodies so movement would have to be at an absolute minimum.

We have already designed the Enterprise 1701-A, The USS Defiant, Galielo shuttle craft and Romulan Warbird. We have the Enterprise A bridge and sickbay, all in CGI. These are free to use at your disposal. Don't feel limited by these. If your idea is REALLY good, we will consider designing new CGI sets and ships.

Ideas containing any of the above, will definitely be an advantage.

DON'T:

Please don't send in Star Wars like battle sequences, crowd scenes, characters from other science fiction shows, scenes with more than two or three characters... you get the idea.

Avoid ideas containing Q and/or the nexus - we've either done them, or already heard them.

We also ask that you don't pitch dialogue. This remains at the discretion of our editor. If your scene requires interaction between two characters, such as Chief O'Brien and Captain Sulu, state "O'Brien and Sulu exchange dialogue as they fire phasers at a plasma conduit".

DEADLINE:

The Deadline for submissions is: Friday 9th June 2003. The winner and winning scene will be announced in a newsletter the following week.

Please send all proposals to bbktrailer@bringbackkirk.com with subject: "Proposal".

PLEASE NOTE: Those submitting proposals agree to the following:

1 a) Those submitting ideas agree that their proposal, if selected, becomes the sole property of the BBK campaign, of which, everybody on this mailing list is considered a member.

1 b) The scene chosen will be one of dozens of sequences, and the winner is not entitled to any ownership of the final product. It belongs to no particular individual or group of individuals; it resides the property of the BBK campaign.

This is a fun project, and your chance to bring a fresh new idea to inspire people to get involved on behalf of the campaign; this has nothing to do with the ownership of ideas.

1 c) You will, however, receive credit in our official newsletter, as winner of the competition, and will receive feedback on why we liked your idea, and why we will be producing it.

2) We reserve the right to present our own version of the winning proposal (this may differ slightly from the original proposal due to logistics, eg available footage, CGI work involved, editing requirements).

3) Absolutely no money at all is made in this endeavour. This is a hobby, and this is fun.

4) If we are inundated with spectacular ideas, we reserve the right to choose more than one winner.

5) On a lighter note, please do not pester us to see the finished product. It's done when our 3D artists and editor are suffering from nervous exhaustion!

Best of luck and happy pitching.
